  1. I would have to agree with Putnam, in the sense that Republicans do need to make a bigger effort to join together and figure out how they can get more representation in the House and Senate. Also, as we have been learning in class, politics go through cycles and this is just another point in the cycle. The fact that Democrats have full control right now does not necessarily mean it will last; there will be a time when the Republicans gain power again according to what the electorate party wants.

  2. What is an intelligent Republican Congressman like Adam Putnam resigning for!? He is exactly what the Republican Party needs to regroup after massive casualties in 2008. As the Congressman said, and Adna reiterated, this is all part of the vicious American political cycle. Republicans had the majority, got complacent, and lost it. It is natural for majority parties to lose favor with the electorate. In addition, the Democrats had a strategic and innovative 2008 campaign using technology to their advantage. They effectively caught the Republicans off guard. If, however, Republicans can reestablish the party based on its core principles, there is no doubt that the cycle will continue.
